English language testing is a requirement for a number of flag state authorities, including but not limited to, the UK (MCA), the Irish Maritime Authority, Australia (AMSA) and the Bahamas (BMA).
A number of shipping, cruise and offshore companies also require English language testing as part of their recruitment and/or promotion processes.
Marlins does not set the rules for companies using our test - we only provide the tools for testing and training. As such, we are not able to tell you whether you need to take a Marlins test or not. You should contact your company recruitment or training officer for more information.
Where companies or flag states do require English language testing, they may make an exception for a citizen of a majority native English speaking country:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- The Bahamas
- New Zealand
- St Kitts and Nevis
- St Lucia
- St Vincent and the Grenadines
- Trinidad and Tobago
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
